Are you one of those people who gets excited about Christmas shopping? Are you feeling calm about all of the events and parties you have coming up over the coming weeks? Or are you, like me, starting to panic and thinking ‘How am I going to fit everything in? When and where and what am I going to get everyone for Christmas?'
This year I’ve decided to try and make some Christmas presents. AND they are going to be healthy, fun to make and easy enough for even my kids to make. In fact, my children are the main reason that I'm giving this a try. I think they might actually enjoy it and its something that we can do together in the fast approaching school holidays! If you’d like to give the people you care about a present (or three) made with love, that smells REALLY good AND is affordable, then read on for a few great ideas that you can make easily at home with some basic ingredients and a few drops of your essential oils.
Sugar Body Scrub
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup fractionated coconut oil (or olive, jojoba, or sunflower oil)
- 10-12 drops of your favourite dōTERRA essential oil or essential oil blend
Mix the ingredients together, and store in an airtight container. Adjust the ratio of oil to sugar to get your desired consistency.
Mix again prior to use if separated. To use, scoop a little out and rub gently over the hands and/or body, paying particular attention to any rough areas, then rinse off.
Apply lotion afterwards for best results.
- 3 cups of coarse sea salt
- 1 cup Epsom salts
- 1/3 cup bicarb
- 25 - 30 drops dōTERRA Essential Oils
- Natural food colouring/dried flowers(optional)
Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add essential oils and food colouring/dried flowers, and combine. Store in an airtight container.
- 20 – 30 drops of your favourite dōTERRA essential oil
- Small pinch of Epsom salts
- Water to fill
- 30-50ml glass spray bottle.
Shake before spraying in the room.
- 1/4 cup Fractionated Coconut Oil (this remains liquid all year and is odourless)
- 15 drops of your favourite dōTERRA essential oil
- reed diffuser sticks (rattan is best, although bamboo skewers will also work)
- glass bottle with small opening
Mix the coconut oil and essential oils in the bottle, filled approximately three quarters. Add the sticks. Flip the sticks over after about an hour to saturate with the scent. The number of sticks to use will vary depending on the size of the room; more sticks mean more scent and faster evaporation of the oils. Rotate the sticks every few days to refresh. When the sticks get dusty or clogged, throw them out and replace.
Hand Cleaning Spray
- 120ml spray bottle, glass or a high quality plastic
- 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel or a pinch of Epsom salts or a splash of vodka
- Water to fill
- 20 drops On Guard Protective Blend
Mix the On Guard and aloe vera together in the bottle, then fill the rest of the way with water.
To use, spray on hands and rub together. When choosing which oils to use, look at the effects that you want to achieve. Generally, the more simple the better in these situations. Try lavender to relax and soothe; peppermint to invigorate; and citrus oils to uplift mood.
