Six Steps to Emotional Balance and Wellbeing!

Have you ever considered what affects our mood and how you can feel happier?  According to a 2005 happiness study, only 50% of our happiness is related to our genes, 10% is related to external circumstances, and as much as 40% is related to our intentional daily activities and the choices we make. Here are some simple steps for creating more happiness in your lives.

1. Nutrition

Eating well has a direct impact on the way that we feel and can be the most important thing that we can do to improve our mood. Eating a variety of organic wholefoods and reducing or avoiding processed food is key.  Drinking a lot of water is also very important and supplementing your diet with a high-quality wholefood supplement can also be very beneficial.

2. Exercise

Exercise helps us to release 'feel-good' brain chemicals such as endorphins and can be very beneficial for reducing stress, improving sleep, strengthening your heart, increasing energy levels, lowering blood pressure and improving self-esteem.

3. Rest and Stress Management

Adequate sleep is vital to our mood and avoiding electronic devices late at night can help us to have a better night’s sleep. Practicing meditation can also be very beneficial. Try to take some time every day for relaxation and mindfulness.  Mindfulness can help bring us back to the present moment so we can stop worrying about the past or the future and enjoy living in the present. Negative emotions can trigger stress, which can lead to inflammation, digestive issues, headaches, depression and more.  Positive thoughts can help us to heal and enjoy life!

4. Aroma

Diffusing certain essential oils (natural aromatic compounds from plants) can have a profound effect on our mood and helping us to manage stress. Numerous studies have shown that lavender can reduce stress levels, calm our nervous system and aid sleep.

5. Social Connection and Healthy Relationships
The most important relationship that we have is the internal one that we have with ourselves. How we see ourselves governs our mood, attitude, behaviour and beliefs. Research has shown that our health is also improved when we have good relationships with others. Bad, negative or toxic relationships can have an adverse effect on our health.

6. Having a Purpose and Giving Back
Happiness and altruism are intimately linked – doing good is an essential ingredient to being happy. Discover your purpose and use your talents to make a positive difference in the world.
