New Year, New You, ten simple steps to a Healthier Happier You!

So Christmas is over, the New Year is looming, you have good intentions for kick starting the year with some New Year’s resolutions but you are stuck to the couch, and your jeans are too tight after too much turkey and Christmas pudding.

I have been there many, many times, so this year I am determined to make some powerful positive changes that I’m going to stick to. If you would like to join me then read on….

1. Declutter

The New Year is a great time for a clean out, especially after Christmas chaos and wrapping paper mayhem. If your house is a mess or you spend hours looking for things, then maybe take some time each day to declutter and get organised. A great book for this is A great book for this is The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying: A simple, effective way to banish clutter forever by Marie Kondo.

2. Set some goals
This is important! If we write down our goals they have over a 40% greater chance of actually happening. What is it that you want to create this year.  A new job, a new home, lose weight, more energy, good health?  Make sure that you set a realistic time frame for when you would like these goals to happen. Then consider creating a vision board and an action plan so that you can start working towards your goals.

3. Start planning

Plan the important events first – such as school holidays, family celebrations, time with friends and family, time for YOU! Then add in work commitments, and other actions that you need to do to help you achieve your goals. A great book for this is

Slight Edge by Jeff Olson.

4. Rest well
You have a big year ahead so make sure that you are getting enough sleep and enough time for YOU. Try meditating, breath work or other relaxation techniques. I love using essential oils to help me sleep and to help me stay calm in times of stress.

5. Exercise

Find a sport or something you love doing and just do it. Even if it’s just going for a walk. Exercise and being in nature have both been shown to boost our immune system and support our emotional wellbeing.

6. Keep hydrated

Most of us simply don’t drink enough. Fereydoon Batmanghe wrote a book on this called Your Body's Many Cries for Water . He believes that most of our health issues can be resolved if we stay hydrated. We should be drinking at least 1litre per 22kg of body weight. If you drink a lot of black tea or coffee, then you need to drink even more water.  Eating high water content fruit, especially in summer, can also help with hydration.  Try adding essential oils such as Lemon or Lime to your water (make sure you use ingestible oils such as doTERRA).

7. Eat well

Eat as fresh as you can, as much as you can.  Try to eat at least 60% fresh fruits, salads, and vegetables.  Avoid processed foods and sugar.  Try a detox program.

8. Do something that you love, every day!

What are your passions, your hobbies, what do you love talking about?  Do some of this every day.  Doing what we love feeds the soul and keeps us happy!  It also keeps us motivated to reach our goals

9. Spend time with those you love
If you want to find out how you can strengthen your relationships with loved ones then I can highly recommend reading. The five love languages by Gary Chapman. If you have toxic relationships that are not serving you, then maybe it’s time to move on.

10. Be grateful
Sometimes we can get sucked up with small trivial things that can make us feel sad or stressed. By focusing on the good things, we can attract more good things into our lives. Focus on the bad, and yep, more of it will come your way. Try keeping a gratitude journal to remind you of all the amazing things in your life that are going well. You’ll be pleasantly surprised with how it makes you feel.

Small steps

So just by making some small simple steps, you can make a big impact in your life and in your overall health and well being. Don’t try and do everything at once.  Try and link up with other like-minded people in your community.  I love Meetup for this, and if you are located in the South West of England then come along to one of our Healthy and Happy Meetup events in Bath or Bradford on Avon

So make some small modifications and you are really going to have a healthier lifestyle and feel fantastic! I would love to hear how you go!  If you would like to learn more about how I use essential oils for health and happiness, do get in touch with me.
