Essentials for a Woman's Wellbeing

Do you ever find your emotions a bit up and down? or struggle with moments where you are just too hot and nothing seems to help? As women, we know instinctively how much our hormone levels influence our well-being and emotions. Changes start as we approach our early teens and as we grow older we keep adjusting to our ever-fluctuating bodies.  DoTerra recognise the importance for women to maintain balance and protect our health holistically and have developed these three wonderful, natural products, specifically to help women with our own unique day to day health needs.

Clary Calm
One of my favourite essential oil blend, designed to cool and soothe, plus its calming aroma helps  balance our emotions. Its great to use:
  • During your menstrual cycle rub into your abdomen for a soothing effect
  • Rub into your skin to help cool during a hot flush
  • This blend is made from Clary Sage, Lavender, Bergamont, Roman CHamomile, Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Fennel, Palmarosa, and Vitex essential oils.
  • The FCF (furanocoumarinfree) Bergamont essential oil in the blend also helps to prevent sun sensitivity, so it's perfect to take out and about.

Hormonal Imbalances
Much of the time our hormone changes are part of our body's natural rhythm, however sometimes imbalances can be caused by issues such as lack of sleep, dehydration, hidden infections and other problems. We often end up coping with these ongoing imbalances without realising that some lifestyle changes can make a big difference in our day to day lives.

  • Cortisol  -  Primary stress hormone, produced in our adrenal glands and regulates changes that occur in response to stress. Affects blood sugar, energy, immunity and blood pressure.
  • Adrenaline – (also known as epinephrine or the ‘emergency hormone’) secreted from the adrenal gland, this is a short term stress hormone that increases metabolism and blood flow.
  • Thyroid (include TSH, T3 & T4) - Main function is controlling metabolism (how our body uses energy). Controls energy, breathing, weight, muscle strength, body temp, cholesterol levels and menstrual cycle.
  • Estrogen – The primary female hormone that is produced by our ovaries, adrenal glands and fat cells. Controls breast development, female reproduction, libido, vaginal heal, skin health, cholesterol balance and, cardiovascular health.
  • Progesterone – Female hormone balance, produced by ovaries and adrenal glands.  Regulates our menstrual cycles, sustains pregnancy, promotes energy, burns fat, builds bone and is anti-anxiety.
  • Testosterone – Produced in ovaries and adrenal glands. Controls libido, enhances mood, improves memory, strength and muscle mass, decreases body fat, protects against heart disease and prevents osteoporosis.

Signs of Hormonal Imbalance
  • Mood swings/irritability
  • Digestive problems
  • Excessive sweating
  • Food cravings
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Trouble sleeping
If your body is in balance then you shouldn’t experience any of these symptoms, no matter what stage of life you are in.
It is always advised that you have these symptoms checked with your healthcare practitioner.

What Can Help?
1. Good Nutrition
Apparently our gut is our second brain and can 'feel' our emotions. Have you ever had butterflies in your stomach, or felt sick from stress? That is the direct response of a thought that we have. In fact, our thoughts can have a massive impact on our health (both good AND bad). So we need to look after our gut and think carefully about our nutrition.

2. Exercise
Exercise can be very important to our emotional as well as our physical well being, helping to release feel-good brain chemicals such as endorphins. Exercise can also be beneficial for reducing stress, improving sleep, strengthening your heart, increasing energy levels, lowering blood pressure and improving self esteem.

3. Reducing Your Toxic Load
Many household cleaners and personal care products contain chemicals which can result in short and long term health problems, and the vast majority of these chemicals have never been tested for long-term effects. We are bombarded everyday with a variety of chemical toxins, some are easy to avoid (such as potentially harmful substances in cleaning or personal care products), but others are not (such as environmental pollution from cars, industry or even in our homes from flame retardants and paint). Choose to use natural products in your home as much as possible and try to avoid processed food to help minimise your toxic load.

4. Daily Support with Essential Oils
Essential oils can support us physically, emotionally, energetically and spiritually.  When I first discovered these oils I was so impressed to learn how they can be used to support our physical health including our immune system, hormones, gut/digestive health, respiratory health and help us manage moods, focus, rest/relax as well as get rid of toxic household products. Essential oils are incredibly diverse.
